The Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment, chaired by U.S. Rep. Bob Gibbs, will hold a hearing next week to review activities carried out by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers related to future water resources development, including the Corps’ annual report to Congress and completed Chief’s Reports.

The Secretary of the Army is required to submit an annual “Report to Congress on Future Water Resources Development” of activities related to the Corps’ missions for navigation, flood control, shoreline protection, hydropower, dam safety, water supply, recreation, and environmental restoration and protection improvements.

In addition, the planning phase for proposed Corps projects culminates with a Chief’s Report: the final results of a feasibility study and recommendations to Congress submitted in the form of a report approved by the Chief of Engineers.

The Committee will review the annual reports and Chief’s Reports issued since the last water resources bill in 2014, as it continues to prepare for the next Water Resource Development Act.

The Subcommittee hearing, entitled, “A Review of United States Army Corps of Engineers Reports to Congress on Future Water Resources Development and Chief’s Report,” is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building.
