The entrance to Ventura Harbor reopened on Friday to all boating traffic, according to the Ventura Port District.
Oscar Peña, the port district’s general manager, said that the harbor is returning to normal and is pleased that there were no major boating incidents reported during the closure.
Sand deposits from big waves, strong currents and storms altered the entrance’s depth and caused port officials to close the entrance on January 22 to most boating traffic.
The dredging equipment at Ventura Harbor will remain in and around the harbor for the next month to continue efforts to remove hazards in the harbor entrance.
The modified Safety Zone will remain in effect to warn boaters of the hazards associated with the dredge and its pipes, but otherwise allow for boaters to maneuver through the entrance with caution.
