Dredging operations on the outer navigation channel of the Lithuanian Port of Klaipeda, undertaken by Jan De Nul, are now completed, according to the Port of Klaipeda.

During this capital dredging project, the contractor removed 51,000 cubic meters of soil, which was a significant step towards the target depth of 17 meters.

“Deepening of the outer area to the depth of 15.5 meters has been completed at an approximately 1.2 kilometer-long section. This section is important for navigation, it has been deepened and stones have been removed ,” said Arvydas Vaitkus, CEO of the Klaipeda Port Authority.

“What’s important is that deeper draught ships will now be able to maintain higher speed and reach the port’s gate and the port area safely even in more severe weather conditions.”

The port will continue with the capital dredging and development program with over €300 million to be invested by 2020.
