Balfour Beatty, a multinational infrastructure group with capabilities in construction services, support services and infrastructure, has just released a video about a coastal protection scheme in Whitby, Yorkshire.
In the video, Graham Dewe of Balfour Beatty explains the use of the ‘Mule’ (Mobile Unit Lifting Equipment) to construct concrete coastal defenses in Whitby.
About the scheme
A section of the A174 Sandsend Road between Whitby and Sandsend is currently at risk of coastal erosion.
The Environment Agency and North Yorkshire County Council are working in partnership to fund and deliver the £9 million project which involves the construction of approximately 800 m of concrete stepped sea defenses, and supporting infrastructure such as public access stairs, stabilization of the coastal slopes above Sandsend Road and the infilling of Raithwaite Gill.
The scheme will be complete in Spring 2016 and is essential work to ensure businesses, locals and tourists can always access the village of Sandsend.
