On 16 March 2016, Royal IHC successfully organised its third dredging seminar in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and announced plans to open a service center in the country in May.
“ Since Bangladesh gained its independence in 1971, we have proudly supplied over 40 dredgers, workboats and booster stations to its public and private sectors ,” explained Kees Derks, Area Sales Director India . “ By opening a local service center, IHC will continue to invest in the country and will maximize the availability of dredgers in the region. ”
Addressing the seminar’s 150 attendees, chief guest Minister of Shipping HE Shahjahan Khan, MP emphasized the need for additional dredging vessels to restore and maintain navigability of the Bangladeshi river system.
Dutch Ambassador HE Leoni Cuelenaere , guest of honor at the event, said: “ There is a great resemblance between Bangladesh and the Netherlands; both are riverine countries that will be affected by climate change and the rising sea level.”
During the seminar, Mr Maminul Hague Sarker from the Centre for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) delivered a lecture on Bangladesh’s river morphology and the need for dredging.
