The Philippines government is working hard in addressing the flood problems in the low-lying areas in Bulacan province by fast tracking major infrastructure projects before the onset of the typhoon season.

In regard to this matter, governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado announced today that the flood control projects are now being completed, including a massive dredging operations in major rivers and waterways, to address the perennial flooding, particularly in the coastal towns of Hagonoy and Calumpit.

The governor, who is also the chairman of the Regional Development Council in Central Luzon, said that President Benigno S. Aquino III has already provided the province two dredgers, including a smaller one known as “penetrator” that will be used to penetrate small waterways like creeks.

He said that the works are also underway in resurrecting the defunct Pampanga River Control System, whose primary function is to dredge rivers.

Aside from this, Alvarado added that work is also in progress in the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Labangan flood control channel in Calumpit.
