The preliminary design for approach channel project in Meishan Port Area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port has been approved by Development and Reform Commission of Zhejiang Province, which is a new progress Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group has made in continuous increase of the berthing capability for “large ships”.

According to introduction of relevant experts, Meishan Port Area will realize “all-weather” operation of the largest container ships in the world after the completion of the channel project.

The port has been concentrating efforts on construction of approach channels and deep water berths.

In respect of channel construction, based on the different demands the 400,000-dwt Shulanghu Ore Transfer Terminal, No.4 and No.5 berth of Meishan Port Area, No.6 to No.10 berth in late stage planning, Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group kept close communication with local port & shipping authority and maritime safety administration and actively participated in advancing the construction of Sheyimen Channel and planning of the approach channel in Meishan Port Area.

At present, Ningbo Zhoushan Port owns two 200,000-dwt deep-water shipping channels and one 300,000-dwt deep-water channel. The port has enhanced the navigation capacity featured by free incoming and outgoing of 300,000-dwt large ships as well incoming and outgoing of large-sized ships of 400,000-dwt and over with aid of tide.

Meanwhile, Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group kept advancing reinforcement and reconstruction of old terminals, deloading berthing of berths and other capacity improving projects.

The group has successively launched 19 old terminal reinforcement and reconstruction projects with totally 31 berths and meanwhile orderly advanced the deloading berthing of four berths.

So far, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has 10 berths with capacity of berthing world’s largest container ships as well as ships with container capacity of 18,000 TEUs and owns one 450,000-dwt crude oil terminal, the largest of its kind in Asia, and 2 berths with capacity of berthing world’s largest 400,000-dwt ore ships.
