Bournemouth Borough Council has just released a video about the progress on the 2016 Bournemouth’s Beach Management Scheme .
This beachfill project is a program of work, planned from 2015 to 2032, to replace Bournemouth’s existing 53 groynes, construct an additional three new groynes and replace the groyne at Hengistbury Head known as the ‘Long Groyne’.
Crews working on the project will pump a total of 320,000 cubic meters of new beach material onto the beach using specialist equipment with work starting between Bournemouth and Boscombe Piers and then continuing East of Boscombe Pier.
The total cost of the entire project (phases 1-3) is £50 million approximately, with the majority funded by the Environment Agency and a small proportion by the Bournemouth Council funding and local levy.
