The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Village of Mt. Pleasant will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, April 26th 2016, to celebrate completion of the Pike River Ecosystem Restoration Project.
The Pike River Ecosystem Restoration Project is located in the Village of Mt Pleasant approximately 4 miles west of Racine, Wisconsin.
The purpose of the project was to restore approximately 1 mile of river through natural stream features (meanders, shelter areas, and deep riffle pool complexes), prairie and wetlands in selected reaches; to enhance aquatic habitat; and to improve overall water quality.
The funding for the $5.7-million Pike River Ecosystem Restoration Project is a 65-percent Federal, 35-percent Village of Mt. Pleasant cost share. The Federal portion is funded through the Environmental Protection Agency’s Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), the largest investment in the Great Lakes in two decades.
