Sediment buildup at the Pewaukee Lake access launch near Naga-Waukee Park has caused Waukesha County to close the north boat ramp until further notice.

The south boat ramp remains open, but may also close if sediment moves into that area.

Sediment builds up in the area as part of a natural process that evolves over a number of years. Over the past two weeks, wind patterns have pushed sediment up into the launch site.

Waukesha County is obtaining permits to dredge areas with high sediment buildup. The county plans to begin dredging as soon as possible after the permits are obtained.

The last time the Pewaukee Lake access was dredged was 2010.

If possible, one boat launch ramp at the Pewaukee Lake Access site will remain open during dredging.

The work is expected to be finished by mid to late June.
