The Environment Agency has confirmed that they plan to dredge part of the River Lune near Lancaster as soon as possible.
Morecambe’s MP David Morris revealed this information during his recent visit to the Lancaster John O Gaunt Rowing Club on Halton Road in Skerton.
The club was flooded in December, but has since made huge progress thanks to funding from Sport England.
“The bed of the river at the top of the weir was littered with debris from the floods, ” said Mr. Morris. “The Environment Agency has confirmed that this area will be being dredged as soon as they are able as part of the cleanup works from the flooding.”
The River Lune experienced a “one in a thousand year” event in December and the main goal of this dredging scheme will be to avoid future flooding.
Storm Desmond wreaked havoc on Lancaster and the Lune Valley, causing widespread damage to homes, businesses and transport networks.
