The work on Phase 3 of the West Rhyl Coastal Defense Scheme has been shortlisted for two civil engineering industry awards, according to the Denbighshire County Council.

Work on the Rhyl scheme, completed in October, was carried out as part of the scheme to upgrade previous defenses, to provide more protection for the town against flooding.

The project was carried out by Dawnus Construction.

Councillor David Smith, Cabinet Lead Member for Environment , said: “ It is a recognition of the very high quality of this significant project delivered in Rhyl. The works took place near the busy promenade area and a lot of effort went into reducing the impact on the local community and keeping people informed of progress.

“Improving flood defenses across the county is one of the key priorities for Denbighshire and this project was an important part of our approach to enhance protection for our coastal community in Rhyl.”

The British Construction Industry Awards 2016 recognize and reward excellence in project delivery. The scheme has been shortlisted in the Civil Engineering Project of the Year (up to £10 million) category.

Judges will visit all projects in July and the winners will be announced on October 12.
