A site visit of Selkirk Flood Protection Scheme has allowed local Councillors to see how the £31.4 million project is advancing, according to the Scottish Borders Council.
Elected Members were shown a number of major activities within the scheme, which is still on course to be completed by December 2016.
“It was good to see the significant progress being made on the Selkirk Flood Protection Scheme with just seven months left of the project ,” said Councillor Gordon Edgar, Executive Member for Roads and Infrastructure.
“When completed at the end of this year, almost 600 properties will be protected against a major flood event by the scheme, which has already been recognized by the Scottish Government as the first major flood protection scheme to be approved under the new Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act.”
The Councillors were firstly given an update on the flood wall in front of Corbie Terrace in Bannerfield where the last section of the Ettrick Water defenses was completed in May.
Councillors were also taken to Dunsdale Haugh road, which is currently closed to allow for a new flood wall and culvert to be created.
