The restoration of Noosa Main Beach following the June 3 storm event is progressing well with more than 10,000 cubic meters of sand pumped back on to the beach, according to the Noosa Council.
Pumping has been temporarily shut-down for the school holidays, with work planned to resume on July 11.
“Despite the volume of sand lost the beach profile is actually very good, meaning we can stop pumping for the holidays, and just level the beach with machinery if necessary ,” Noosa Council Technical Officer, Dave Shing, said.
“ The downtime will allow us to carry out some much needed maintenance on the sand shifter, which has moved thousands of tonnes of sand since early June.
“We’ll be keeping an eye on the beach over the holidays and, if need be, we will carry out some grooming to improve the beach profile, during low tides. But at this stage it looks as though that won’t be necessary. Once the holidays are over we’ll assess how long we will need to continue sand-pumping for ,” Mr Shing concluded.
