The Town of Hilton Head Island has just announced the latest update on their 2016 Beach Nourishment Project.
Currently, the Town’s contractor, Weeks Marine, Inc., is working at the “heel” of the Island adjacent to Port Royal Plantation.
To date, more than 450,000 cubic yards of sand have been placed since the project’s June 17, 2016 start.
It is expected that work will continue at Port Royal for the next 5-7 days.
In preparation for the commencement of sand placement activities at South Beach later this month, hydrographic survey crews operating in boats collecting data will start its work today afternoon around the time of high tide.
The area of interest includes the nearshore waters between Brown Pelican Road and Marsh Wren Road.
The survey work is expected to be completed no later than July 13.
During the 5 month beachfill project, worth $20.7 million, construction operations will proceed around the clock and will, on average, move along the shoreline at a rate of about 200 to 300 feet per day.
