The Georgetown County Public Services Department has scheduled a public meeting in the Murrells Inlet community to present plans for an inlet dredging project expected to begin this fall.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 21 at the Murrells Inlet Community Center.
Officials said that a main component of the project will address dredging of jurisdictional areas belonging to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
This component will also include a beach renourishment element, as sand reclaimed in the dredging effort will be deposited on the beachfront at Garden City Beach, where sand is badly needed.
A second component of the project involves dredging of access channels the county is required to maintain.
An option was also given to private landowners to partner in the dredging effort.
