In its latest update on their 2016 Beach Nourishment Project, the Town of Hilton Head Island said that the beachfill activities adjacent to Port Royal Plantation are now completed.
To date, 3 of 6 project segments have been wrapped up with approximately 1/3 of the project’s total sand volume in place.
Approximately 650,000 cubic yards of sand have been pumped to the Island’s beach since June 17 by the Town’s contractor, Weeks Marine, Inc.
“In coming days, our contractor will break down the pipeline used to build the project thus far in order to transport it for storage at the Town’s Islanders’ Beach Park and on the Town’s Collier Beach Property, ” the Town said.
By the end of the week, the pipeline necessary to build the South Beach segment will be delivered to the Island by barge where it will be off loaded and stored.
Residents and visitors should expect to see additional activity on the Island’s south end.
Fill placement is expected to resume within the next 5 to 7 days once the dredge has been repositioned.
