U.S. Senator David Vitter has announced that the Office of Gulf Coast Restoration in the Department of the Treasury will be awarding a $16 million grant to the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority of Louisiana (CPRA) under the RESTORE Act to aid in coastal restoration.
Funds from this grant will be used for the engineering and design of the Calcasieu River Salinity Control construction project, which will help to limit salt water intrusion in the Calcasieu Lake through the Calcasieu Ship Channel.
“Louisianians know full-well the vital role a strong coastline plays in protecting our homes, communities and economy, ” said Vitter.
“In Louisiana, ‘coastal restoration’ is much more than a political catch-phrase; it affects our daily lives. I’ve worked for years to ensure Louisianians will be able to fight coastal erosion, salt intrusion, and habitat destruction and this grant will help us do that head on.”
The RESTORE Act establishes grant programs for the Gulf States, including Louisiana, for environmental restoration and economic development projects.
