The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have released the Hudson-Raritan Estuary (HRE) Comprehensive Restoration Plan (CRP) – Volume 1, Version 1.0.
The 255 page document dated June 2016 is the product of a multi-year effort by contributors from throughout the New York-New Jersey region, including leading scientists, technical experts and stakeholders.
The restoration plan provides a science based consensus vision, master plan and strategy for future ecosystem restoration in the New York and New Jersey Harbor.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey developed the CRP in partnership with the New York-New Jersey Harbor Estuary Program (HEP) in collaboration with Federal, State, municipal, non-governmental organizations and other regional stakeholders.
Version 1.0 of the CRP has addressed comments from regional stakeholders based on years of public outreach, updates following Hurricane Sandy and input from partners following the initial release of the Draft CRP in 2009.
The HRE CRP is a framework for restoration of the estuary, and defines program goals and objectives, identifies opportunities to meet restoration objectives and describes potential strategies for implementation.
The CRP focuses on creating and restoring a mosaic of habitats and includes recommendations for future restoration actions that the entire region can work together to implement.
