Dredging operations on the Duluth-Superior Harbor, the largest harbor on the Great Lakes, are moving forward.

This cleanup scheme began in July and is expected to be wrapped up by mid-November of this year, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District.

The USACE awarded two contracts for removal of nearly 350,000 CY of material from the harbor.

Marine Tech of Duluth, Minnesota was awarded about $1.4 million and Roen Salvage of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin was awarded about $1.25 million to dredge material from the federal navigation channel in order to maintain the channel for optimal commercial navigation.

The project is funded through the district’s operations and maintenance program and the Environmental Protection Agency’s Great Lakes Restoration Initiative program.
