Communities across Western Australia will share in $551,000 for strategic coastal planning and to undertake projects that improve the condition and amenity of the State’s coastline.
Planning Minister, Donna Faragher, today announced that 23 projects will receive funding under the latest round of the Liberal National Government’s 2016-17 Coastwest and Coastal Management Plan Assistance program.
“ WA has more than 20,000 kilometers of coastline and these diverse projects tackle specific regional issues ,” Mrs Faragher said.
“Several projects will also focus on identifying coastal hazards and developing strategies to adapt to the potential risks of climate change and rising sea levels.
“Our ongoing commitment to these programs reflects the importance of good coastal planning as well as on-ground management.”
The Minister said that the State Government’s commitment was shared by many people with most projects being led by local governments and involving coastal community volunteers and groups.
“The grants represent a great opportunity for the community with the total value of this year’s projects, including Government funding, being more than $1.55 million, ” she said.
The latest funding allocations support the Western Australian Planning Commission’s State Coastal Planning Policy, which guides land use and development along WA’s coast.
