Navigational dredging within Oceanside Harbor is moving forward, the USACE’s Los Angeles District said in its latest update.
From July 28 to August 3, the contractor, CJW Construction, removed nearly 10,000 cubic yards of material from the harbor’s entrance channels.
Since operations began on June 6, CJW has intermittently suspended operations because of adverse ocean conditions.
To date, CJW has dredged roughly 86,000 cubic yards of the 260,000 cubic yards designated for removal.
The Oceanside Harbor navigational dredging project is an annual project conducted to maintain the federal channels within Oceanside Harbor at their authorized federal depth. Oceanside Harbor is one of four annual dredging projects conducted by the Los Angeles District.
The purpose of the dredging is to maintain the harbor at its authorized federal depth of -25 feet in the entrance channel and to provide safe navigation for the recreational boats and commercial and military vessels that use the channels.
Material dredged from the entrance channels is being placed along Oceanside’s beach.
