In its latest update on their 2016 Beach Nourishment Project, the Town of Hilton Head Island announces the pending completion of sand placement activities at South Beach adjacent to the Sea Pines Resort.

“Once finished here, 4 of 6 project segments will have been completed with approximately 1/2 of the project’s total sand volume in place, ” the Town said in the update.

Approximately 1,000,000 cubic yards of sand has been pumped to the Island’s beach since June 17 by the contractor, Weeks Marine.

The active work area will move to the Island’s Central Atlantic Oceanfront Beach next, starting at South Forest Beach and advancing to the north.

“During the week of August 8, our contractor will break down the pipeline used to build the project at South Beach and ready it for transport to South Forest Beach ,” the Town added.

Pipe transport activities are expected to occur during overnight hours early next week.

Fill placement at South Forest Beach is expected to resume on or about August 15.
