The South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Working Group is sponsoring a workshop on Wednesday (August 31) in Jensen Beach to engage the public in the Lake Okeechobee Watershed project (LOW).
The purpose of the LOW project is: to improve the quantity and timing of water entering Lake Okeechobee and the northern estuaries; to improve regional water management operational flexibility in context of the overall Everglades ecosystem restoration; and to restore wetland habitat within the Fisheating Creek, Indian Prairie, and Taylor Creek/Nubbin Slough sub-watersheds, S-65D and S-65E basins, and Lake Okeechobee.
The preliminary project area, where placement of features will be considered, covers a large portion of the Lake Okeechobee Watershed north of the lake.
The workshop will be held Wednesday on the second floor of the Francis Langford Dockside Pavilion located in Indian RiverSide Park. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. and is scheduled to last until 4 p.m.
