Antea Group has just announced that they will carry out a multi-sectoral investment plan for adaptation to the hazards generated by climate change on the Beninese coastal zones, particularly coastal erosion.

The plan will be based on information collected through literature review, site visits, interviews and two stakeholder workshops.

The West-African country republic of Benin stretches along the narrow and somewhat sandy, 124 kilometers long coastal area.

It is located between the Equator and the Northern Tropic and is influenced by transitional tropical conditions.

In Benin, a high proportion of the population and the largest city are situated on the coast. The coastal region is vulnerable to sea-level rise, with potentially catastrophic impacts on the economy, the population and natural systems.

The team of Antea Group is preparing for the first stage of the project followed by a visit to Benin this month.
