Napier Port is about to hold a number of public meetings on the port’s multi-million dollar expansion plans.

The proposed project , estimated at $100 million, includes construction of a new 350m wharf along the northern edge of its existing container terminal and dredging of a larger shipping channel.

The project would be carried out in two stages. Stage one would see the construction of the wharf and dredging of the berth pocket and swing basin. Stage two would see the dredging of the channel, but this may be done over as many as six separate phases.

Napier Port is applying for a staged consent so dredging can be progressively carried out to meet demand for larger ships to come to Hawke’s Bay.

The port is inviting the community to information drop-in sessions at any time between 4pm and 7pm – at Hawke’s Bay Sport Fishing Club in Ahuriri, on Monday September 19th, and Westshore Surf Club, Tuesday, September 20th – to speak to Napier Port staff about the project.

Information will also be on display at The Box, 36 Waghorne Street, Ahuriri between Monday September 19th and Sunday September 25th.
