Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. has won a $14 million contract for dredging and maintenance works on the Martin Garcia canal, said a press release from the Uruguayan Government.
The agreement between the Argentina-Uruguay River Plate Commission and the Dutch company was signed last week in Buenos Aires.
The main goal of this dredging scheme is to maintain the canal’s depth at 9.75 meters.
Boskalis has 10 days to present an executive plan for the project, and the commission will have one week to approve it, the press release stated.
Felipe Michelini, head of the Uruguayan delegation of the Commission , said: “Boskalis already knows the Martin Garcia canal.”
The company performed dredging works at the canal in 1998, maintaining the depth level there until 2013.
Two dredgers which will be utilized for this project will use the Uruguayan Port of Colonia as its operational base.
Works are expected to last six to nine months.
