Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company (GLDD), from Oak Brook, Illinois, has won a $14 million firm-fixed-price contract for the Baltimore Harbor dredging project.

“Bids were solicited via the Internet with three received ,” according to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

The main goal of this dredging program is to ensure continued safe navigation in and out of the Baltimore Harbor.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, is the contracting activity and the estimated completion date of the Baltimore Harbor dredging scheme is February 14, 2017.

In January 2016, the Corps awarded a contract to GLDD for maintenance dredging on four channels in the harbor; the Fort McHenry Channel, Seagirt Channel West, Brewerton Eastern Extension and Craighill Entrance.

The following channels associated with the Port of Baltimore were dredged to their respective authorized dimensions, plus specified allowable overdepths ranging from one to two feet:
