The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, has awarded a contract to RBV Contracting, Inc. of Detroit, MI, to stabilize a portion of the north bank of the Red Run drain in Macomb County, Michigan.
The project will help prevent sediment buildup in the channel from an area of sloughing bank between Dequindre Rd. and Ryan Rd.
The banks will be flattened and rip-rap will be added to the toe of the slope and the lower portion of the bank to prevent the bank from continuing to deteriorate and adding sediment build up in the channel.
This environmental infrastructure work meets the goals of a wide array of project partners including the Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner (WRC), the USACE and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).
The project is being executed through a Project Partnership Agreement between the WRC and the USACE.
“This project is the second phase of stabilization work in this area of the Red Run Drain ,” said Paul Powell, USACE Project Manager.
“Previously an interceptor trench was installed to capture ground water and direct it into the drain through sewer structures. This prevents ground water pressure on the face of the bank and minimizes sloughing on the bank. This phase will include flattening the slope and installing rip-rap to further prevent erosion.”
The contractor will begin work this fall and have the construction substantially complete by the summer of 2017.
