Maintenance dredging works on the Patterson River entrance will take place from October 19 to November 19, 2016, weather permitting, according to the Parks Victoria’s latest Notice to Mariners.

Dredging works will be carried out by a cutter suction dredger and the dredged material will be deposited for beach renourishment at the adjacent beach.

“On-water plant, equipment and potential hazards to navigation arising from the works will be marked as per IALA standards,” the Parks Victoria stated.

“Mariners are advised to navigate within the designated speed limit and exercise caution within the vicinity of the works.”

The Patterson River is a unique man made waterway, created in 1876 to provide direct drainage from the entire Dandenong Valley catchment area.

Since then, it has become a popular recreational venue offering a range of recreational opportunities not provided elsewhere in the region.

The waterway is situated within the City of Kingston, approximately 28 km south east of Melbourne.

The river begins at the joining of the Eumemerring and Dandenong Creeks at the National Watersports Centre before its short journey to the sea.
