The Sunset Beach Town Council has announced a new date for its community meeting to discuss a planned dredging project.

The meeting, originally set for October 8 but postponed because of Hurricane Matthew, will now take place on November 12 at the Jones/Byrd Clubhouse, 75 Clubhouse Road, Sunset Beach, NC.

Moffatt & Nichol, an engineering firm hired by the town, will make a presentation and discuss proposed dredging areas in Jinks, Mary’s and Turtle Creeks, the Bay Area, the Feeder Channel and the finger canals along Sixth, Marlin, Dolphin, Sailfish and Cobia streets.

Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions, make suggestions and comment in an informal setting, according to the notice.

Residents near the proposed projects sites have expressed worry over dredging could have on sedimentation in Jinks Creek and, in turn, the health of an estuary that includes the creek.
