An approximately $3.9 million beach renourishment project is slated to start during the next week, according to the Collier County’s latest announcement.
Over the next two months, the county’s approved contractor Earth Tech Enterprises, Inc. will place more than 135.000 tons of beach quality sand at South Marco Island Beach, Vanderbilt Beach, Pelican Bay, Park Shore and Sugden Regional Park.
The sand replacement is in response to damages created by Tropical Storm Debbie and normal beach erosion.
Crews already started mobilizing their equipment this week at Park Shore and South Marco.
Access to Horizon Way which leads to the Park Shore beach renourishment location is being closed and will remain closed during the beach renourishment process.
Collier County said that the access to the Park Shore area beach will be available at other nearby beach access points including Vedado Way.
Crews plan to work Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Work will be suspended on Sundays and over the Thanksgiving holiday from Thursday, November 24 through Sunday, November 27 as well as the week of December 26.
The project is expected to be completed by early January 2017.
