State Representative Timothy Whelan has announced that the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs will be providing the Town of Yarmouth with $77.500 in grant funds through the Dam and Seawall Repair or Removal Program.
The funds granted to the Town of Yarmouth will support planned improvements for an approximately 500 linear foot section of deteriorating revetment at Bass River Beach.
In acknowledging the grant, Karl von Hone, Director of the Division of Natural Resources for the Town of Yarmouth, stated: “Bass River Beach is one of Yarmouth’s most picturesque and active waterfront properties that provides diverse public access opportunities to resident and visitors alike.”
Representative Whelan added: “I want to thank Secretary Beaton, and the Baker-Polito Administration, for their continued support of our local initiatives and needs here on Cape Cod. The Town of Yarmouth is one of the jewels of the Cape and Islands and these funds will help local officials as we wrestle with the effects of coastal erosion on the Bass River.”
The awards were formally announced yesterday by Secretary Matthew Beaton in a press conference in Quincy.
