The new coastal defenses at Milton Common and Anchorage Park have been completed on time and under budget.
Planning has now started on the Tipner Lake scheme, where work will begin in 2017.
The 10-year project to give Portsmouth much needed flood defenses is managed by the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership in their capacity as Portsmouth City Council’s coastal engineering team.
So far the project has installed hundreds of meters of rock along the coast to prevent flooding and further erosion of the coastline.
Milton Common has now fully reopened to the public.
The next phase of Portsmouth’s coastal defense work will begin in early 2017 when work starts at Tipner Lake. This is the third phase of the project and will run from the Mountbatten Center, Twyford Avenue to the Ports Creek roundabout.
The existing sea wall at Tipner is in poor condition and is too low to provide adequate flood protection to the area behind. The new scheme will rebuild the existing sea wall which will increase in height by up to 1.4 meters to reduce the risk of coastal flooding to properties in the area.
This work will take place in three phases from April – Autumn 2017, 2018 and 2019, when the area will reopen.
A public exhibition will take place in February 2017 to show the final designs to the community and provide information about the work.
