China Harbor Engineering Company Ltd. (CHEC), a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), recently won a major port expansion project in Conakry, Guinea.

The contract that was signed in late October is estimated to be worth around $774 million.

Conakry Port is the fourth-largest port after Abidjan Port, Dakar Port and Lome Port, as well as the only port importing and exporting containers, grains and oils, fishes, cement and break bulk cargo. It plays a vital role in Guinea’s economy.

According to Keita, Director of the Guinea Port Authority, the capacity tension and backward facilities of Conakry Port so far severely impacted the economic and social development of Guinea.

Following the signing of this agreement, the port will be upgraded with better functions such as berthing, warehousing, port roads, and the level of port development in Guinea will be improved to better serve regional economic development.

The construction project involves two general berths, a bauxite ore berth, port roads, parking lot, land reclamation, auxiliary works, etc.
