Mexico’s General Coordinator of Ports and Merchant Marine, Guillermo Ruiz de Teresa, has announced the start of the dredging operations on the New Port of Veracruz.
At the ceremony, which took place on November 25, he said that the dredged material from this project will be used for creation of five new terminals.
Upon completion, the new port terminal will be capable of handling 100 million tons of cargo per year, almost the same capacity of the ports of Manzanillo and Lázaro Cárdenas together, the official added.
Flavino Ríos Alvarado, the Acting Governor of Veracruz, Fernando Gamboa Rosas, Director General of Port Development and Administration, Juan Ignacio Fernández Carbajal, General Director of the Integral Port Administration of Veracruz, Delfino Cruz Santos, Veracruz Regional Captain and Ramon Poo Gil, Veracruz Municipal President, also attended the ceremony.
The Veracruz dredging scheme will be conducted by the cutter suction dredger ‘Marco Polo’.
The execution of the work has combined public and private resources, as authorized by the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público – the Mexican Finance Ministry.
