Suffolk County Executive, Steve Bellone, has announced approval for plans to appropriate $2.1 million in funding for the dredging of various county waterways to improve navigability for boaters and to improve waterways.

“It is critical that we continue to properly maintain our waterways so that everyone can use them safely,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.

“When we take care of the waters and protect the coastline, our local economy is stronger. The allocation of these funds will go toward the planning, site improvements and equipment that is necessary to continue the dredging program.”

Dredging various county waterways will result in the removal of about 42,000 cubic yards of material, which will be placed primarily along the Great South Bay shorelines and upland dikes for replenishment and nourishment.

The following locations are scheduled to be dredged during the 2016-2017 dredging season;

A resolution authorizing the dredging projects was approved by the Suffolk County Legislature on November 22, 2016.
