The U.S. EPA Gulf of Mexico Program recently announced that the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program received a $235,901 cooperative agreement to restore fresh water flow to Goose Lake, enhancing marsh habitats near Corpus Christi, Texas.

According to the EPA release, the project will restore circulation and hydrology within Goose Lake by designing and installing new culverts to replace old, blocked ones, allowing much-needed freshwater to flow into the lake and enhancing important marsh habitat within the Nueces Delta Preserve.

The project will restore hydrology and enhance 147 acres of coastal habitats that include tidal flats, intertidal and high salt marsh, and open water lagoons.

“ Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program is excited to partner with EPA’s Gulf of Mexico Program on this needed restoration project. As the current stewards of the preserve, it is the program’s desire to try and restore natural function to impacted areas of the Nueces River Delta ,” said Jake Herring, Director of Land Conservation for the program.
