The Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA) has just announced that the Broadwater dredging scheme is finally completed.
“There is no dredging planned for 2017/18 for the Broadwater, ” the Authority said in its announcement.
“This is because we have just completed 18 months of dredging within the Broadwater, with a spend of $5.3 million, we are now planning to move on to spend $3-4 million dredging in the Coomera and Nerang Rivers.”
GCWA Chief Executive Officer, Hal Morris, said that, through the dredging process, they have managed to achieved nominal depths of -4.5m LAT in the South Channel, but that mariners still need to proceed with caution, wherever they are in the navigation network.
The final stages of this dredging project included areas of the Seaway (South Channel and South Wavebreak Island Channel), according to the myGC website.
Sand from these dredging operations was used to replenish beaches in the area.
