Vital dredging of the entrance channel of the Clyde River at Batemans Bay has been completed in time for the Christmas holidays.

Member for Bega, Andrew Constance, said that the NSW Government has invested over $500,000 to ensuring the lower reaches of the river are accessible to boaters during low tide.

“Dredging the river channel entrance of the Clyde River provides a direct benefit to the community through improved boating safety and access to waterways for both commercial and recreational boaters,” Mr Constance said.

“We’re heading into the busiest boating season of the year and the completion of dredging works at the Clyde River entrance channel means locals and tourists can confidently access the area.”

Mr Constance highlighted that this dredging work, conducted by the contractor Sandpiper Dredging, will also benefit local and visiting beachgoers.

“Around 3,000 cubic meters of dredged sand has been used at Corrigans Beach and Westside Surf Beach for their renourishment,” he added.

The Clyde River works have been funded through the NSW Government’s Dredging Strategy, a joint initiative run by the Department of Industry – Lands and Roads and Maritime Services.
