The Town of Edisto Beach has just announced that their long-awaited beach nourishment and groin lengthening project is officially underway.

According to town officials, work will continue 24/7 until May in order to replenish the town’s beach before summer season.

Sand is to be dredged from the designated offshore borrow area situated approximately one mile off the south end of the project.

The borrow area encompasses approximately 175 acres and the maximum volume available in borrow areas is approx. 2.2 million cubic yards.

This beachfill scheme, undertaken by Marinex Construction Inc., started around Beach Access 5 and will progress toward the north, the release stated.

The Edisto Beach sand nourishment scheme is set to be completed by May 2017.
