Beginning Monday, January 16, 2017 the Hilton Head Island’s subcontractor, Eastman Aggregates, will begin tilling those portions of the Island’s beach which were recently renourished.

The tilling is a requirement of the beach renourishment project permits and is done to ensure suitable nesting habitat for sea turtles.

The portions of the beach affected by this work are South Beach between markers 12 and 20, South Forest Beach to the Folly between markers 53A and 97, adjacent to Port Royal Plantation between markers 117 and 123, along the Port Royal Sound beach between markers 124 and 130 and at Mitchelville Beach, the town said in its latest release.

The proposed work hours are between 7:00am and 5:30pm and all work is expected to be complete within 7-10 days.

The town’s contractor, Weeks Marine, Inc., completed sand placement activities in the overnight hours on December 29, 2016.

Since the start of the project in June, more than 2.5 million cubic yards of sand have been placed along approximately 7 miles of shoreline.
