DEME, the Belgian dredging, environmental and marine engineering group, has secured several new contracts for dredging and land reclamation works in India and the Maldives.

The total value of these orders represent approximately EUR100 million, DEME said in its release.

In India, DEME has been awarded several new projects, including dredging works for Project Seabird Phase II that was submitted in joint venture with L&T. It is one of the largest naval infrastructure projects in India, located at Karwar on the west coast of the country.

Amongst the other projects, DEME will also execute the maintenance dredging works on the approach channel to Karwar Port for the “Directorate of Ports” of Karnataka.

DEME also returns to the Maldives for major land reclamation works at Emboodhoo Lagoon, located in the South Male Atoll.

Ten islands will be reclaimed to develop a high end integrated resort, the comapny said.

Pierre Potvliege, Area Director Indian Subcontinent, said: “DEME, and its subsidiary International Seaport Dredging, gained a solid position on the Indian Subcontinent. The new contracts in India and the Maldives demonstrate our long established reputation as a reliable and efficient partner to tackle even the most complex and technically challenging projects around the region.”
