The Port of Coos Bay is currently working on a plan to dredge and discharge about 150.000 cubic yards of material from Coos Bay over the next three years, according to the USACE’s Portland District latest release.
The application was submitted last week and now the USACE is asking for public comment on this proposal.
Dredging work will be accomplished with a clamshell, hopper or pipeline dredger and the dredged material will be discharged either at an approved upland site or U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved ocean dredged material disposal site, said the announcement.
The port proposes to avoid and minimize impacts from the project by proposing to remove only the minimum amount of material necessary to conduct safe and reliable vessel operations from their sites, by conducting work during the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife preferred in-water work period, and by adhering to environmental design criteria of a Corps and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) programmatic biological opinion.
Public comments will be taken through February 22,2017.
