An upgrade to the southern end of Caseys Beach seawall will begin next week to ensure long-term stability of the foreshore and reduce the risk of damage to a nearby sewage pump station, Eurobodalla Shire Council just announced.
Contractors for the Council will carry out the works to stabilize a section of the wall between Short Creek Bridge and the pump station.
The $500,000 seawall upgrade will incorporate a flatter slope to minimize storm damage. The crest will be at or slightly above existing ground levels to preserve views from the car park.
The seawall will be extended further into the beach, and while this will affect beach access at high tide, it is necessary to prevent further erosion.
The existing rocks will be removed by excavator and the area lightly re-shaped where required. A first layer of new rocks will be installed on a geotechnical textile for erosion and stabilization control, followed by a second layer of larger rocks.
The existing rock will be re-used in the first layer or to reshape the bank where possible.
Works are due to be complete before the end of June.
