Ministry Celebrates Completion of Meemu Atoll Coastal Project

The Republic of Maldives’ Ministry of Environment and Energy last week held a ceremony to mark the completion of a coastal protection project in Meemu atoll Naalaafushi. According to the ministry’s announcement, the ceremony was inaugurated by His Excellency President Abdulla Yaameen Abdul Gayyoom.

The Republic of Maldives’ Ministry of Environment and Energy last week held a ceremony to mark the completion of a coastal protection project in Meemu atoll Naalaafushi.

According to the ministry’s announcement, the ceremony was inaugurated by His Excellency President Abdulla Yaameen Abdul Gayyoom.

This project, undertaken by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), started back in 2015.

Under this coastal protection scheme, MTCC constructed a 510m rock revetment in the mentioned areas.

The total cost of this project was MVR17 million ($1.1 million) and was funded by the Public Service Investment Program (PSIP) budget.

According to the ministry, 12 similar coastal protection schemes were completed in 2016.
