The East Devon District Council (EDDC) has now begun the tender process to find and appoint a consultant who can undertake the necessary analysis of flooding and coastal erosion issues affecting Seaton and to write the town’s beach management plan (BMP).
The council has already received a good response to its tender with expressions of interest from 11 companies, the majority of whom are based locally with excellent experience of managing coastal erosion and flooding issues in the district, EDDC said in its latest release.
Commenting on Seaton’s BMP, Cllr Iain Chubb, East Devon District Council’s portfolio holder for the environment, said: “Seaton’s BMP is a vital tool for managing the town’s beach and minimizing the risks of flood and coastal erosion. It will take into consideration the many different uses and functions that the beach fulfills and, hopefully, will provide stability or better still improvements to them.”
“We appreciate the valuable input that our professional partners, as well as the local community and businesses have put into the BMP project so far. Their expertise has assisted us in completing the brief we put out to tender and we look forward to working together to complete this scheme in a good timescale.”
Once the tender process has been completed, the council will appoint the successful consultant towards the end of March 2017 with a view to completing the BMP in Autumn 2017.
