Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) plans to hold a meeting with the regional and international engineering and construction companies specializing on berth infrastructure works, according to Mr Raivis Veckagans, the USPA head.
Mr Veckagans made this announcement during the dialogue with the management of USPA branches last week.
“We have a short-term plan of seaport engineering infrastructure development and we are ready to present it to potential contractors as well as discuss it and receive constructive proposals,” said Mr Veckagans.
According to the estimations of USPA experts, more than 80% of berths require minor and capital repairs, with 20% of these are in need of emergency repairs.
The estimate costs of these works will be around 5 billion UAH ($185 million), USPA said.
“For instance, the berth №7 in Odessa Port was built in 1965 and we are seeking for a ways to its rapid restore. The berth infrastructure should work to ensure the balance between the interests of business and government. Definitely, the development of port facilities should run professionally and transparently. In this regard, we want to attract for such an engineering works both Ukrainian and foreign companies from Turkey, Bulgaria, Poland, China and others,” the head of USPA said.
Mr Veckagans also said that the authority is in talks on cooperation with the Ukrainian representatives of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), one of the world’s oldest associations in the field of construction consultancy.
The anticipated result of cooperation with FIDIC is introduction of international contact forms in the field of dredging (Blue book) and engineering works (Red book).
