Ben Weyts, Minister of Mobility for the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders, visited the Knokke-Heist site today to kick off the EUR17 million beach replenishment project, Jan De Nul just announced.

The restoration of this part of Belgian coastline is essential as the sand cliffs, caused by storm Dieter last month, are dangerous for visitors, JDN said.

The joint venture ‘Noordzee en Kust’, of which Jan De Nul is part, was awarded the contract for the reclamation of almost 1 million m³ of sand.

JDN’s trailing suction hopper dredger Alexander von Humboldt is mobilized to execute these works at the beaches of Knokke and Wenduine.

The completion of the beach fill project is set for April 15, 2017.
