International Association of Dredging Companies’ secretary-general, Rene Kolman, presented on the latest FIDIC Blue Book at the “Fourth International Forum of Dredging Companies” in Moscow last week.

The Forum was held on February 15th at the Radisson Ukraine Hotel in Moscow under the auspices of the Russian Ministry of Transport and the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport of Russia (Rosmorrechflot).

In 2006, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) published a specialized contract for dredging and reclamation activities – the FIDIC Form of Contract for Dredging and Reclamation Works.

The second edition of this book was released last year with updates to better reflect actual practice.

In his presentation, Kolman discussed the history of the FIDIC Blue book and the reasons why the second edition was released.

He also went into detail about some of the significant changes in the contract that included “Increased Dredging Quantities” and “Fitness for Purpose” and how these updates can help stakeholders finalize a dredging contract.
